We love this deck at Mercer Island. Natural Cedar tone on clear cedar. Beutiful, isn’t it?
Tip from ExWoCare: The optimal temperature for the most sealers and stains to apply is between 75 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit

Exterior Wood Care, Inc, F/K/A Deck Plus Plus, LLC is celebrating it’s 10th anniversary this month!
Hundreds of projects, hundreds of happy customers, great reviews on the Internet.

If chemical are used during deck restoration, wood might fur. Some companies coat it as is, other sand the wood. We use something different – defurring with nylon brush. It’s fast and beautiful, see for yourself (right side the wood is defurred)

Just another day at work.

This deck was restored by our company 3 years ago. I proud we use a sealer this quality

Cleaned and ready for another 3 years

We’re booked for a month and a half ahead, but there is still time to order our service.
It’s very important to do the job right by the book. If it’s deck restoration, it’s even more important. We stopped any restoration projects on September 15 last year. This spring we had a couple of requests for estimates from home owners, who got in a little trouble after work was done by other companies too close to the rain season.
Here are few pics of ruined deck. Removing failed product is an expensive process.

A nice cedar deck needed a little attention. Good quality cedar was sealed a number of years ago with teak oil…

After few hours of chemical cleaning it looks much better…

Sealing with Pecan tone in few dry days…

We start this season with a real cool project – restoring a deck after 5 years. It was a real pleasure to see how our sealer performs.
We restored this deck in 2008, it looked like this in 2013:

The sealer we’re using is pigmented oil. Similar sealer from other manufacturers will last 12-18 months, our sealer doesn’t look like new after 5 years being out on North-West, but still protects the wood! We’re talking a lot of moister, two large dogs, big trees around… I believe we use the best product available on USA market. For more info visit out other site
After two days of hard work the deck is clean and beautiful again:

Summer of 2012 was the last year we used Cabot products on our decks. Cabot known as a great stain manufacturer for a long period of time. We used to use Cabot’s Australian Timber Oil on our ipe deck projects, because this sealer last longer on exotic hardwood, then other sealers.

We’re doing 4th maintenance in 8 years on this deck. The homeowner loves our service, and doesn’t look for any other options. We maintain this deck in Natural Cedar tone, which gives a light fresh look. I remember the shape of the wood when we got there for the first time. The deck was sick, the fungus was starting it’s deadly work, slowly eating the deck. We replaced 2 boards at the beginning, and didn’t loose a simple deck board after that. I’m sure, if we continue regular maintenance, replacing the deck boards will not be an issue. BTW, this deck is under a lot of stress: big trees around, and a lot of moister. This is a real good test for the sealer we use.
Deck after 2 years of serious stress by the nature:

This is probably the worst thing you could do to your deck: Painting.
Painted decks are difficult to restore, because strippers we use designed to strip stains and sealers. Also, paint cover so many wood problems so it’s tough to say if your deck boards could be saved or need to be replaced. Most of the time you need to go with deep sanding to get rid of existing paint.
First step – Chemical washing. If you’ll do deep sanding on the deck you can skip this step, but for us it was interesting how much paint we can strip using our commercial grade stripper.

Us you can see a lot of loosen paint pilled off after chemicals plus pressure washing.

Now we need some dry weather, which is not happening very easy on the North West.

I love Seattle, but the weather over here likes dirty jokes :(
I don’t start new projects for a couple of weeks now. Too many decks are waiting for the sealer, and I can’t do it in such weather. But, from the other hand I have plenty of time to play with projects like this. Here is a picture after the first path of ALTO Clark drum floor sander. Sandpaper grid – 24. A lot of paths to go:

Yes, the live’s go on, and we’re finally done with this project. With a little help from mother nature we got summer…
Her how the deck look after we done with sanding:

Oh yes, few boards have been eaten by dry rot. There is no way to fix it, only replacing the boards…

And here it goes, the final picture: deck restored, and sealed with TWP-105, double coat using paint brushes and deck pads:

We had an interesting project this May. The homeowner used a stain from one of premium names in color Driftwood. Although he applied it correctly, and had done a lot of wood preparation, the stain start pilling after less then one year. He decided to call professional woody. The Driftwood is not very popular among homeowners, and it was a big pleasure to work with this product. We were able to completely strip all surfaces and apply great product almost the same color.

We do light sanding on horizontal surfaces on every deck we restore, thanks to new type of tools and some work we’d done to adopt this tools for our needs. But sometimes, light sanding is not an option, and in worse case scenario, we cant use a big floor drum sander on particular deck. In this case, our work turns to hell, but the results are great. Look how much sandpaper used to sand by hands medium size deck! This is 40 hours of sanding:

After few days of nice weather we completed the project. Here how it looks in Mahogany (Dark Red):
